L'illa Diagonal, history of the shopping mall of Barcelona Diagonal

Due to its size, the complex of L'illa Diagonal was known at first as the "Superblock": the extent of the area occupied and the impact on the city resulting from the construction of the complex, required an international consultation for ideas. The final project had to combine municipal needs concerned with street layout, the creation of free space and amenities for the district of Les Corts, with the range of private construction envisaged, for commercial, hotel and office use.

Caprabo is a Spanish supermarket company, 100% owned by Grupo Eroski. It has a network of 350 supermarkets in the autonomous regions of Catalonia, Madrid and Navarre. Its headquarters are in Barcelona.

The restaurant crowns the old port cable´s tower, designed and built by Carles Buigas in 1929, because of the Barcelona´s Universal Exhibition.

Closed during the Civil War, the tower reopened in 1958 as a banquets restaurant. In 1996 the cable car was restored and in 2002 brothers Carles and Oscar Manresa, Barcelona´s restoration leaders, turned this vantage point into one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Catalan Main Town.

At 75 meters above sea level they serve delicacies of Mediterranean Cuisine while, becoming stunned, we admire the spectacular view over Barcelona.
